AMSTERDAM (2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women) – Italy and Australia will face off for fifth place at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women while Korea grabbed ninth place and Brazil finished 11th.

Italy’s bench out-scored Belgium’s 42-13 in grabbing a 63-55 victory to move into Sunday's game to determine fifth place. Marzia Tagliamento paced the Italians with 18 points off the bench while Elisa Penna collected 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Italy also had Maria Barberis come on for 11 points, 5 steals, 4 assists and 2 assists and reserve Giulia Vanin added 6 points and 11 rebounds.

Belgium have now lost four straight games and will square off against Netherlands for seventh place. The Belgians were led by Hind Ben Abdelkader with 24 points and 9 rebounds while Julie Allemand had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block.

The Dutch lost 82-58 to Australia as Tiana Mangakahia and Vanessa Panousis combined for 35 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Keely Froling added 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners.

Lisanne de Jonge paced the Dutch with 14 points and Klaziena Guijt had 13 points in the loss.

In the 9-12 Classification Round, Korea bat Mali 57-39 to finish ninth as Park Ji Su had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 blocks and 2 steals while three others had nine points for the Asians.

Mali picked up one victory in the tournament in taking 10th place, losing despite Mariam Maiga scoring 21 points and Awa Keita adding 3 points, 22 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 blocks.

Brazil beat Turkey 66-61 for their first win and to claim 11th place. Carla Lucchini collecting 18 points, 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 3 assists and Izabella Sangalli adding 13 points 8 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 assists. 

Turkey did not win a game in the tournament to finish last despite Sinem Atas and Melis Gülcan scoring 18 points each.
